Accept Your First Online Payment

Last updated: 2026-07-09 Summary:

  • Connect your own PayMongo account once, then any sent invoice can carry a public pay link.
  • The customer pays on a branded hosted checkout (card, GCash, GrabPay, Maya) — no login, no eKapital account.
  • A verified PayMongo webhook reconciles the payment into your books automatically and flips the invoice to Paid.

This walkthrough takes an invoice from “issued” to “paid online” in one sitting. You collect the money through your own PayMongo merchant account; eKapital never touches the funds.

  • A PayMongo account with API keys (get them from your PayMongo dashboard).
  • A customer and at least one posted invoice — see Create an invoice.
  • The payments:manage-methods permission to connect the gateway.
  1. Go to Payments → Merchant Settings.
  2. Paste your Secret Key and Webhook Signing Secret, and choose Test or Live mode.
  3. Click Save & Connect, then Test Connection to confirm the key works.

Full detail, including the fee-posting account, lives in Connect your PayMongo account. Keys are stored encrypted and never shown again.

  1. Open the invoice (it must be Sent, Viewed, Partial, or Overdue).
  2. Click Get pay link. eKapital mints a public URL of the form /public/invoice/{token}.
  3. Use Copy to grab the link, or email the invoice — the branded email embeds the same link and a QR code.

On the public page the customer sees your business name, the invoice totals, and — if the invoice is subject to expanded withholding tax — the Net Amount Due after EWT. They click Pay, which sends them to PayMongo’s hosted checkout to pay by card, GCash, GrabPay, or Maya. See Send a customer a pay link for exactly what they see.

When PayMongo confirms the charge, it calls eKapital’s webhook. The webhook is verified against your signing secret, then it:

  • Posts the cash, EWT, and receivable journal entry.
  • Records any processing fee it can see (the rest is trued up later).
  • Flips the invoice from Partial to Paid.

The public page polls after checkout, so the customer sees a “This invoice has been paid. Thank you!” banner without refreshing. Back in the app, the invoice shows Paid.

  • Open the invoice — status is Paid, balance due is zero.
  • Open Payments → Payouts and Sync payouts to see the money on its way to your bank; see Track payouts and settle to your bank.
